Powerpoint

Powerpoint is a wonderful digital tool for the classroom as it has so many different uses. As a business teacher, powerpoint would be an effective way of summarising large amounts of information into a slideshow. Into the slideshow i could also incorporate content appropriate video clips, as powerpoint caters for animations to be included. Accounting is a class that most people would think powerpoint is not suitable for, however i could use powerpoint to create a slide show to break down the steps in certain bookkeeping processes. The uses of powerpoint are endless and is a digital tool that will never become boring due to all its features and level of creative art.

Weebly Site

Hi all

The link to my weebly site is http://lisaperry90.weebly.com.

A website is different from a blog and a wiki. A website could be used to support the learning of students in the following ways;
  • Online resources instead of paper copy resources
  • Assignment submission
  • Contain content covered in lesson so students that were away can see what was taught online
  • Practical activities.

Wiki vs Blog

My wiki can be viewed at http://lisaperry.wikispaces.com.

A wiki is a server that allows users to create and edit webpage content using any web brower whereas a blog is an online journal that is created by a user that allows followers of that blog to comment on posts made by the user of the blog.

The big six framework

Learning activities that could be designed to fulfill the requirements of this framework include; assignments, research activities, story writing and applications for activities done in a range of subjects.

The Functionality of a blog

A blog is an online journal where people can post journal entries, and allow others to comment these entries. Blogs can be useful in a learning context as they cater for student directed learning. A blog can be used as a communication space between students where they are able to share ideas, summarise readings and notes. The use of a blog further promotes digital pedagogies, allowing students to engage in ICT based learning.

Learning styles

After completing a learning styles quiz, I learnt that my particular learning style was social (interpersonal). Learning experiences that would suit best with this type of learning style is activities completed in a group or one-on-one with the teacher where ideas can be shared and problems can be solved by talking through them with other class members.

In the classroom, it is important that the diverse range of learning styles are supported in the classroom. For visual learners you would use videos, slides, pictures and visual note taking tools to engage in their learning. For social learners you would establish activities which allows them to share ideas with other class members and be allow oppurtunities for students to actively engage with eachother. Catering for physical learners could involve activities which require students to move around the classroom, for example: getting them to write answers onto the whiteboard.
ICT combined with digital pedagogy is beingly commonly used to support todays learners. With my common use of knowledge I would incorporate ICT into the classroom by using the interative whiteboard which can display videos and websites from the internet. Interactive whiteboards can also be used to physically engage the students within the learning activity. Students are able to come up and circle and move things around on the interactive whiteboard. In my own experience, I have used a data projector, hooked up to my laptop, to display a counting chart, which the students then solved maths problems on the board using the counting chart which was being projected onto the board. I found that the students responded really well to this activity.
